Quality Control Engineer

Job Description: 

Summary:

Plans and directs the plant’s quality assurance laboratory. Responsibilities include quality improvement, training, inspection, quality assurance, auditing, customer satisfaction and statistical quality control, Cross trains and back fills the process engineer and project engineer position in their absence as required. Provides technical and engineering support to operations and maintenance as needed.

Essential Job Duties:
• Monitors, measures, and reviews analytical data and communicates results to pertinent departments.
• Suggests corrective actions deemed appropriate for out of specification raw materials and product.
• Establishes analytical objectives for laboratory staff members and develop strategies for accomplishing this end through developed ASTM testing methods.
• Conceptualizes and establishes laboratory staff work schedule in providing an effective and efficient data/information channel for the operating group.
• Issues customer shipment reports including certificates of analysis, quality control reports and requests for waiver.
• Issues daily and monthly reports for all incoming, in-process and finished product analysis results.
• Supervises special testing programs and experimental design requirements.
• Determines required levels of personal protective equipment.
• Provides regular hygiene, housekeeping and equipment maintenance inspections.
• Responsible for the selection, assignment, development, review and appraisal of potential laboratory candidates and other in-service actions.
• Provides training on equipment usage and safety.
• Conducts audits, inspections, and safety meetings.
• Purchases laboratory equipment, parts and supplies.
• Implements ISO program requirements into daily activities.
• Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
• Work with project engineers, crafts people, contractors, vendors, safety and environmental personnel to solve problems, drive schedule and meet assigned project goals
• Participate in equipment design, installation and evaluation as well as support on going routine activities
• Assist in plant’s environmental compliance and health and safety programs
• Supports management with special projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Communicates clearly and concisely in a variety of communication settings and styles and effectively tailors the message to the needs of the audience.
• Establishes goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant.
• The candidate should be able to demonstrate multitasking, organizational and conflict management abilities
• Lays out work in a well-planned and organized manner.
• Must be detail, driven and action oriented
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Education and Experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree in specialized Engineering field (Chemical Engineering preferred)
• Have significant work experience

Physical and Other Requirements:
• Typically sits or stands for extended amount of time in front of a computer.
• Willingness to work around dust, chemicals and other substances
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
• Ability to wear personal protective Equipment(PPE) in designated areas( hard hat , safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection)
• Ability to work with minimal supervision required
• As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint including but not limited to creating charts, formatting cells/formulas, creating presentations and reports
• Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed instructions to other workers.
• Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
• Must be able to travel as needed.
